New Zealand Experience

My New Zealand experience

Last year I chose to spend my summer in Auckland – New Zealand.
As our school has a partnership with the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) in Manukau it was possible for me to do my “internship” abroad.

This year I was finishing school a bit earlier (28th of April) and flew on the 29th from Munich to Auckland.  In my first week I had time to have a look around and to get known with my homestay family. On my first Sunday, Cherie (the headmaster of MIT) picked me up to go to the Duder Regional Park. She always tried to make my time in New Zealand awesome and she also tried to get the best out of it for me, which was really great.

In my second week my program started:
On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays I had the opportunity to be in a class together with 40 people from all different countries and with different ages. The papers I did were called “People & Change” and “New Zealand Business Context”. I learned about the New Zealand history and Māori culture, economic stuff and a lot about businesses in New Zealand.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I was working at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland at the Front Office.
I learned a lot about the whole Hilton company and got showed around a lot too. As I was an internship girl I wasn´t allowed to do all the responsibilities as my colleagues but they explained a lot to me and always tried to incorporate me to their daily work as a Receptionist.

In total I spent exactly 4 months in New Zealand and enjoyed my time a lot!
The people over there are really friendly and the New Zealand culture is amazing and in some ways a lot different to the Austrian. I definitely fell in love with this country and I am already looking forward to my next trip to New Zealand.
